Maine's Rangeley Lakes Region

What originally put the Rangeley region on the map were the trophy brook trout, breathtaking natural beauty, clean air and pristine waters. Visitors were drawn from near and far to this special area in the western Maine mountains with a rich and storied outdoor sporting heritage. What has kept people coming back ever since are the stunning natural beauty, the endless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, the peace and tranquility and the friendly people.

A Four-Season Jewel in the Mountains

The Rangeley region is a true four-season paradise tucked away in the mountains of western Maine. Fall brings a chill to the air and the changing foliage splatters the mountains with brilliant yellows, oranges and reds. Just about anywhere in the area affords outstanding photo opportunities.

The Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway, a 35.6-mile National Scenic Byway, is a great way to meander through the mountains and lakes and take in the views, the wildlife and the villages along the way.

After this stunning display of color, the leaves fade and fall and the days grow shorter and colder, transitioning to the beginning of winter, when the lakes and ponds freeze and the landscape becomes blanketed in white. The Rangeley region quickly changes into an idyllic winter wonderland. Visitors can explore the area on the 190 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, ski, snowshoe, ice skate and even curl, on Haley Pond. Or, simply curl up with a good book by a roaring fire. As the days grow longer and winter starts to show signs of surrendering to spring, we anxiously await "ice out", the official kick-off of the much anticipated fishing season. As summer begins to take hold, the hillsides and fields are ablaze with our signature wild lupine and many other wildflowers. The lakes and ponds become playgrounds for boaters and swimmers and the area villages bustle with a wide array of festivals and the arts.

Diverse and Renowned

Rangeley and Oquossoc, Rangeley Plantation, Sandy River Plantation and Dallas Plantation, along with the surrounding areas that comprise the region, are very small villages by any standard. Yet what the area has to offer, beyond its natural beauty, is surprisingly diverse. Enjoy your stay, whether it be at a bunkhouse or a historic inn or lodge - and everything in between - and you will quickly discover the famed Rangeley hospitality. Savor a dinner at one of several award-winning restaurants, stop into a pub, have a great pizza or treat your palate to some great barbecue favorites. Several area bakeries are sure to satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth. Shop for unique items you won't find at any department store. And no stay in the region would be complete without visits to our local museums. There are numerous spectacular hiking trails, ranging from very easy to very challenging - something for all ages and skill levels. Rangeley was designated as an official Appalachian Trail Community in 2012 and celebrates in September with the Appalachian Trail Town Festival. Rangeley also boasts a beautiful library, built in 1909 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a Health & Wellness Center, a theater, a bowling alley and entertainment center, state of the art fire and rescue service and so much more.

It's no wonder Rangeley was recently voted Best Place to Live in Maine in Down East Magazine!  Rangeley was also named one of the Top 10 Winter Towns in New England by Yankee Magazine! Various honors and awards have been bestowed on numerous local businesses and all of the local businesses welcome the opportunity to make your stay here an amazingly unforgettable experience.
