We are seeking a person that finds the logging industry, its history and our operation at the Museum meaningful, interesting, and exciting. We are seeking a part-time Museum Docent to serve as the welcoming face of the Museum to the public, fulfilling an array of functions such as checking in visitors, membership signups and donations, and providing visitors information regarding our exhibitions.

The Maine Forestry Museum was founded in 1979 and today houses hundreds of artifacts from regional logging operations. We also own nineteen oil paintings of Alden Grant that document life in the region's lumber camps from 1915 to 1928.
Duties include, but not limited to:

Performing Museum opening and closing procedures.

Ensuring merchandise displays and brochure racks are kept in tidy order and shelves replenished accordingly.

Monitoring merchandise inventory and processing/tracking merchandise sales.

Answering incoming calls, responding to messages, updating Museum voicemail.

Monitoring the appearance of the Museum: checking restroom periodically for paper supplies and filling as needed, performing light housekeeping as needed to maintain daily appearance of the public spaces.

Participating and assisting with various Museum events including the Logging and Apple Festivals.

Assisting/conducting group tours (as needed).

Opportunity to create new Museum exhibits and displays.

Participating in our Museum goal to assure a positive experience for visitors of all ages.

Having web/computer talents (we have WiFi), phone/office skills, and creative traits is a plus.

Applicants must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Applicants must like working with and meeting people and have a positive attitude.

The work schedule for this position:

SUMMER HOURS: June 16-September 9 Wednesday-Sunday 10am-4pm
FALL HOURS: September 9-October 3 Thursday-Sunday 11am-4pm
