Ed Rice, author of Baseball's First Indian: The Story of Penobscot Legend Louis Sockalexis, will be at the Rangeley Public Library on Weds. Sept. 4th at 6:00 PM to discuss the impressive career of Sockalexis. Louis Sockalexis was the man who inspired the nickname for the Cleveland professional baseball team in 1897. Sockalexis, a civil rights icon, endured extreme racial prejudice comparable to that experienced by Jackie Robinson 50 years later.
